I did not know that Oman was on such good terms with Iran to let them have a missile base. I would have guessed that Oman would have a Saudi U.S. ally having a border with the Saudi's.

I think the Chinese wanting a fire power near the straits of Hormuz is more to have a chance at keeping it open. Closing the straits would be easy for the Chinese or the Iranians.
