mlsoft, on possible war/oil scenarios....

Since the thread can't seem to find anything to be hopeful about maybe this will cheer everyone up. Here is my outrageous prediction.

Saddam decides he can't play rope-a-dope with this administration and can't get other nations or UN to halt upcoming invasion.

Backed into a corner he capitulates and retires to Russia with his family and a billion or so in cash. US gains control of the world's second largest oil reserves with no fighting.

US sets up puppet regime to control Irans oil supply and then drives the price of oil to the US so low it sparks an economic recovery in time for 2004 election.

OPEC cartel is broken and can no longer control world price of oil. Arabs are no longer awash in cash. They become less militant and allow Palestinian situation to be resolved.

Balance of power in the middle east and the world shifts. China's emergence as the worlds number one superpower is delayed for an additional 20 years.
