I have a diff opinion of LBJ and can't forgive him for lying about the Gulf of Tonkin, which REALLY sucked the US into the VietNam war big time!...him and his buddy Sec'ty of State John McNamara, who when it came time to sell his book admitted it was a mistake...ala Colin Powell!
LBJ hated old man Kennedy, but didn't let that prevent him from accepting 2nd place.
As for LBJ getting things done, you're right about that but those were the days when Dems/Repubs were willing to negotiate to get things done; neither party expected to get their way all the time.
