None of these I follow, but often the relief of tax pressure selling causes stocks that have been beaten bad during the year to have a bounce early in January.

Just had lunched and for the first time, I finally heard someone suggesting that the elimination of double taxation should be done by making dividend tax deductible to corporations rather than make them non taxable to recipients. Art Cashin went up a notch on my scale (g). He should have also mentioned that the marginal rate should be increased an iota (or at least later in the next few years) to make it "revenue neutral" as well as to close the gap between the highest rate for individuals and corporations. Maybe he has been reading our thread? During lunch the half bucker was taken from QLGC.
