NEOM: There is a difference between selling and licensing. When you sell a patent that means there are no future royalties. Licensing can mean royalties or not. In the cash of NeoMedia's eBay license, there were no royalties so it was "lump sum" using your phrasing. Depending on your calculated IRR, it can be good decision for both parties.
