Why should you be penalized because you make more money than me?

the real question is, why should we be penalized for making less than they do? They make more, and in absolute terms sometimes pay more in actual dollars, but rarely, since they mostly find ways to get their pay in stocks if they work and own a company, or from dividends if they sit on their asses and live off money earned often generations ago. That means at most, they pay 15% capital gains on money they can't shelter. How many of them actually pay 35% of their income in income tax, which is the nominal rate that republicans whine about? And regressive taxes... if you make a small wage, a higher slice of your income goes to gasoline, sales, and fee taxes. The lower your income, the more of these taxes you pay, percentage-wise.
So again i ask, why should you be penalized for being poorer, and then help them keep ripping you off? Seems like you are fighting your own opportunity to join in on the american dream.
