I do remember Patrick writing that, and it's one of the reasons I like him. He's not pretending to be something he's not. And what he is suits me. I can learn from him.

There are people without credentials who know more about science than most scientists.

James Watt was never credentialed in any trade. He learned them, one after another, too fast to qualify for certification by the standards of the trade guilds of his time. That didn't keep him from becoming a top maker of scientific instruments and making key contributions to the development of steam power.

When Watt came to the industrialist, Bolton, with whom he entered into partnership, Bolton might have said, "So, you are not qualified in any trade as a journeyman? I will have nothing to do with you." But, Bolton was an intelligent man and he did not say that.

It may be that you believe that no one without an official degree in science can know enough to be worth listening to. If so, we disagree. I will continue to take Patrick Cox seriously.

Patrick Cox's research, connections, and speculations about Star Scientific (CIGX) are, in my opinion, well considered and worth taking into account. It does not give him his due to simply scorn him as a "stockblogger".
