edit .. While getting those links I wondered and looked re an extension of more than 12 months myself .. just to wrap it up now i just
called the 131881 number here .. http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/telephone.htm .. (other numbers there if outside Australia) ..

.. unfortunately the answer was NO .. 12 months is the max with no extension, even if sponsored by an employer .. didn't ask,
but am assuming a longer stay would be only gained by getting a temporary residence visa .. edit .. or a skilled sponsorship
one from the beginning, which is not in the area we were looking at .. both about which i know zilch .. sorry 'bout that.
