Sure is! I'm glad I own my property free-and-clear. A friend was foreclosed upon who also owned her property free-and-clear, though, so that is no guarantee. Turned out, her tenants managed to forge signatures with a criminal loan agent and put a loan on the property, then skipped with the funds. She turned it over to her lawyer who got it straightened out. Ownership records are public records at least here in California so it is quite clear who owns what with what loan owed to whom. I guess that does not guarantee the lender has the right to foreclose if they only service the loan which was resold and cut up in tranches. . .
