U.S. retailers' same-store sales off 1% last week WASHINGTON (AFX) -- Weather again kept consumers away from the nation's stores and malls as retail chains' same-store sales fell 1% in the week ended May 14 compared to the prior week, according to data compiled by the International Council of Shopping Centers and UBS. Also on a seasonally adjusted basis, last week's sales were 3.3% higher than a year ago. While cooler-than-normal temperatures dampened the latest weekly sales, ICSC chief economist Mike Niemira noted that gasoline prices have now declined for four consecutive weeks and that this may give a shot in the arm to consumer confidence. For all of May, Niemira said ICSC expects comp-store sales to rise by 3% to 3.5%
