The latest BTC news bulletin says that the project is on track to begin filling the line with oil this month at the Sangachal terminal in Azerbaijan, and that commissioning of the head pump station at the terminal is complete. http://www.ciobinternational.org/openArticle.asp?ArticleID=4662
The U.S. intends to strip Russia of control over this oil. And the U.S. wants the Caspian oilfields to be completely independent of the Persian Gulf--to diminish the importance of Persian Gulf states in the world economy.
The U.S.-proposed BTC pipeline would start in Baku--traveling west through Azerbaijan. It would deliberately take a detour around Armenia--a country allied with Russia. The pipeline would circle into Georgia, and then travel southwest across Turkey. Most of its length would be through the Kurdish areas of Turkey--where there has been ongoing armed struggle against the Turkish oppression of Kurds. And the pipeline would end in a port near Ceyhan on the eastern Mediterranean. #msg-3775550
After independent Uzbekistan came into existence in 1991, the authorities followed a liberal policy towards Islam. They permitted the reopening of many mosques, which had been closed down by the Soviet government before 1991, and the construction of new mosques in Andijan, and let the local Muslims go on pilgrimage to their holy land in Saudi Arabia. There was a mushrooming of new mosques funded by Saudi money. But after the emergence of the HT in 1995, they reversed this policy. #msg-6355164
