Partnerships that benefit the poor The poor across Africa are challenging us to create new partnerships with them - but not patronage. We heard these clearly during the consultations on our Africa Strategy. Africans want organizations like ours and other donors to work with them, rather than for them; they want us to implement the vision they have articulated. That is why our new strategy emphasizes partnerships as the main instrument for implementation. And it is partnership with Governments; the private sector; other development actors and of course with African citizens. Knowledge is the second implementation instrument – but it is knowledge under an “open development” approach. An approach that recognizes that the solutions to development challenges rests amongst many actors including the poor
