I don't think Ntephe could understand the drilling results if someone stuck them under his nose. And who else at ERHC could explain the results to him? Maybe Gralla, but I'm not even sure about him. Someone probably told Ntephe they found a bunch of gas and he didn't know any better than to think that was great news. And there is little doubt that he did think whatever he was told was great news.

Either it was great news and they put a gag on him or maybe it wasn't and he just didn't know the difference. It has to be one or the other.
