What we are probably seeing in Uzbekistan to an extent is a backlash to Bush’s devaluing of democracy by using bogus democracies as a means to takeover a country.

Authorities in Central Asia remain concerned that they may see such pro-democracy movements repeated in their own countries. This has prompted them to pre-emptively clamp down on all forms of possible dissent, including the press, she explained.
