Wouldn't innovator companies patent both product and processes for making em when they file for new drug ? so they are disclosing IP to competitors…

Pharmaceutical manufacturing processes are generally protected by trade secrets rather than patents. (Note that the FDA’s Orange Book for small-molecule drugs prohibits inclusion of process patents.)
