I love words (language), which is meant to communicate, but if the vast majority of one's audience doesn't understand the words with which one communicates, one has not communicated at all. OTOH, the more obscure words of the English language are often more precise, allowing for better communication, provided your audience also understands the word.

BTW, is the word "majority" singular or plural? The English often treat nouns as plural that Americans treat as singular, like the words government or corporation, which confuses me as to which form of the verb to use in conjunction with it. And while we are on the subject, what is the grammatical term applied to nouns that represent groups of things (government, corporation, etc.)? Obviously I'm bored with the market today . . . LOL
