F6, re: Jarrell F5 ... !!!!

I remember it well ... it scooted south on FLAT
LAND alongside I-35. Jarrell is between Temple
and Georgetown, so it's a good 30 miles north
of Austin.

The topo of Austin is FLAT east of I-35 (which
now represents about 30% of the city). For the
first 2 miles west of I-35, the topo of Austin is
NOT FLAT but is rolling and the few 'nados that
have hit west of I-35 have bounced a lot and
NOT caused much damage ... just a roof here
and there ... .

I live 4 miles west of I-35 in "big hills" and I
don't think we have EVER had a 'nado in my
neighborhood (Northwest Hills).

BOTTOM LINE: Big Hills and 'nados do NOT
mix ... . But you must know that ... . F5's
require a flat surface to attain full strength.
