I should mention that the quotes you copied are not the author's words..they are quotes from the interviewed researcher at the company, Cardinal; so his evaluation is not colourless. The article does not make a black and white judgement between plants and animals, but slightly leans toward plants, when possible, with a niche for animals..
You suggest that for monoclonal antibodies plants have an advantage, so this quote is not applicable generally: "protein purification is generally easier from serum-protein free cell cuture media than from milk" (...) " ?
That is not an area I know about, interesting area though.
