The way it all happened was this:

Like I said, she was about six and wanted to read me something.

I was busy doing something and wasn't paying attention.

She said, "Audient, audient, I need you to listen."

I said, "Don't you mean audience?"

She said, "No, there's only one of you."

It's been a family joke for years and is really weird to find out she was right all along.
