Good article. I especially like the line about evangelical Christianity poisoning the political process.
As a former literature teacher and writer, I do a lot of reading!
People are always telling others what they've got to read; often it's just silly stuff, and I suppose I've done my share.
That said, I'll venture this: one of the best books of the last few years is Michelle Goldberg's Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism.
It is a frightening account of the new amalgam of extreme nationalism and apocalyptic religion that is being legislated in under the guise of silly phrases like "restoring American values."
Lying, cheating, swift-boating, election fraud, shooting doctors ("We've got to save those babies somehow") and a total hijacking of the democratic process is the Right Thing To Do, because God is on their side.
