More directly to the point, perhaps - Does 'ITS FOR REAL' intend to give newbies the impression that electricity is free in Bolivia? -g-

It may be in fact quite cheap for them at the moment, somewhere i saw comment to that effect, can't speak for its veracity though ... i'm not that informed on detail of this thing, btw, only lurked its SI thread once in a while, for entertainment .... until the Silence-Digr movement reared its ugly head over here, and i happened to notice it

There will be some quid pro quo for the juice at some point, though, you can bet on that eh .... nothing comes for free in this world, for very long ..... although, you know, at our other palapa near the seventeenth parallel of north latitude we do not pay for la luz, nothing at all, in fact if we did pay we would raise the ire of our neighbours, who would not like the bad example we'd be setting .... this is very common south of the Río Bravo, fwiw, probably for the majority of homes in latino countries .... of course, we're only using one skinny wire hooked up 'informally' to the grid, just as every other house in the village does .... but even here, we're paying in another form, by getting the sort of poor government that must provide 'free' power to survive .... which is changing now, slowly, with the priístas out of the federal picture at the moment, and there is some talk of wild ideas like paying for power, among others .... still, when people don't live in a cash economy for the most part, where are they going to get the funds

It is difficult to believe that a mine development would get significant amounts of energy well below world prices for very long, yes eh .... anyway, you can't do everything with electricity, and you still have to buy and maintain all that equipment .... at half a gramme per tonne, you've got to break out and move massive amounts of material to your plant, process it efficiently, and then move it away from your plant [you won't see the latter mentioned here, but it's necessary, trust me] .... we certainly could not do this economically with our extension cord at the other shack
