I had to run into town and didn't have time to do more than post what I found there.
Now that I am back and looking over the information it looks as though out of the 8 listed, 6 of them(Malaysia,Vietnam,Thailand, Phlippines,India and china) list plants as non-patentable.
Singapore:
Non-patentable subject matter
Methods of treatment of the human or animal body by surgery or therapy or of diagnosis
Invention that may encourage offensive, immoral or anti-social behaviour
Does not mention plants as non-patentable.
Indonesia:
Non-patentable subject matter
Any process or product that contravenes the prevailing rules and regulations, religious morality, public order or ethics
Methods of examination, treatment, medication, and/or surgery applied to humans and /or animal
Discoveries or scientific theories
Mathematical formulae
Living creatures, (except micro-organism)
Biological processes for reproduction of plants and animals
Does not say plants, unless it is included in "living creatures". It only mentions the biological processes for the reproduction of plants.
Does this leave open the possiblity of a patent on giant king grass in Indonesia or Singapore??
Any thoughts??
