More proof, PLASTIC IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO RECYCLE.
Here's an old post of mine with "tons" of information, please post information that proves plastic does not go to landfill.
1. Plastic can’t be mixed when recycled, has to be sorted not only by codes on the bottom but often by colour, by it's properties within a specific code, if it is filled, unfilled or reinforced, and it has to be clean, or if it is regrind, a slice of pizza can ruin a load and make it worthless. One PVC bottle can ruin a 10,000 bottle load, and just because plastic has a recycling symbol on the bottom, does not mean it is profitable, for the most part only PET (or PETE) #1 and HDPE #2 are worth recycling.
2. Very difficult to sort. A PVC bottle is identical in appearance to a PET bottle.
3. Most plastics are not profitable to recycle. Recycle #3-7 are only taken so recyclers can access #'s 1 and 2.
4. Plastic has a short recycling life when it is recycled. Plastic used to contain food or water cannot be used with food again because it cannot be heated enough to sterilize the plastic, the plastic loses too much of its cohesion if heated too high and becomes useless, therefore, most plastic that is recycled is made into items that cannot be recycled such as carpet and fill for coats and sleeping bags.
Tons of details in my old post.
