OT Historical trading routes. Fancy that. Along with coastal areas, ports, and bays.

There's a reason there are no major cities far from water, except perhaps, Las Vegas.

Cities up against the Eastern side of the Rockies may be another exception, but if you traveled west in a horse-drawn covered wagon, I'd understand the impulse to say, "That's it. I'm putting roots down here."
