Good arguments. In particular, I see how the costs in a hydrogen infrastructure could be less opaque. That's very important. But other solutions could see this as well.

I'm skeptical of hydrogen primarily because of the storage and transport difficulties. So far I can't see how these problems can be solved in both a cost effective manner, and in a way that makes the net efficiency (from an overall energy balance perspective) favorable.

The best options that I've seen for sustainable transport fuels are fuel oil from algae, and ethanol from the Coskata process. The high energy density of these liquids do not present storage problems, but there are some transport difficulties. Decentralizing their production will solve this problem.

But the best long term solution may be to incorporate every sustainable technology that proves viable. With industries decentralized as we agree they should be, there will no doubt be settings more favorable for some technologies over others.
