Yes - I agree with 'the beast' assessment - but, at risk of ruining your wonderful metaphor, I am going to try to adjust it slightly.

So the beast in my metaphor is the consumption 'monkey' - the addiction to oil and fossil fuels but also to consumption in all it's forms. And that to eschew consumption suggests the party started last century is over. Not very many people are ready to contemplate that.

I really do believe we get the government we deserve - that the lack of a national vision for an enlightened (energy) future is due primarily to an uninformed electorate as you suggest - that we lack knowledge in history, basic science and economics and therefore don't act in our own best interest and willingly believe in political candidates that pander to our vanity and our laziness. I would, however, call this a mass "willful ignorance"- a form of delusional behavior that helps the US purposely avoid confronting difficult issues. Specifically, we can't come to acknowledge our national energy appetite (among much other gluttony) - to do so says, in effect, we can't consume our way to happiness and that to try is actually harmful to any real long range plans. As it is now, sustainability is a dirty word. Protecting the "Commons" is even worse.

It's in this context however that Cyclone makes so much sense. The CYPW technology is a tool that can easily bridge the infrastructure "change over hurdle" from fossil fuels and envisions small scale, efficient, smart energy production. And this enables independent thinkers to develop new ways to integrate "small energy" into a smart local grid and a small local energy market, sensitive to local energy demands and keeping the energy economy and revenue right there in the community. I think of this invention as the iPad of clean energy - a platform around which many unforeseen and marvelous new uses will evolve.
