if the company knows they have something big to announce they could very well be the ones buying cheap stock from the float...if they know the stock price is going to go up it could be an easy source of financing when they sell those shares back...big board stock companies do this regularly if they think their stock is cheap at a time before they are ready to announce something big...I dont think the company would just buy the shares to retire them though fwiw...JMO
