Any mining company in the world would just love to get their hands on VMS, it really brings quite a bit of value to each ton of rock mined. Just to the south in the same belt of rocks that the Hand camp is in, is the "Duck Pond" VMS deposit but they do not have near the gold that we have. Bob Nordberg Bob Nordberg

Our Strategy
Teck’s goal is to build a diversified mining company, active in low-risk jurisdictions, with a solid Canadian base. Our strategy is based on the belief that over the long-term, a diversified mining company is valued more highly than a single commodity company. A diversified company is able to pursue the best mining investment opportunities and not be constrained by commodity. The limits of our diversification strategy are based on the belief that we should leverage our core skills and competencies in mining and mineral processing in globally traded commodities.
Our strategies in our current business sectors are:
Coal: As the 2nd largest global exporter of seaborne traded hard coking coal, grow our participation in this market with our extensive resource base in accordance with the demand of the global steel industry.
Copper: Grow our copper business as a significant copper producer by optimizing production potential at our existing five mines and developing our extensive portfolio of potentially long-life copper resources.
Zinc: As the 2nd largest mine producer of zinc in the world, secure and improve the value of our long life assets in this business by supporting market growth initiatives.
Gold: Explore, find, and develop gold resources through our targeted exploration activity in secure jurisdictions, and capture the value accorded to gold properties through periodic divestitures into an opportune gold market.
Energy: Develop our extensive oil sands resource base into multi-generation oil production.
Growth of the company will always be guided by a long-term perspective, seeking superior financial returns, from a core value that mining development can be done in a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable manner.
