I believe the rights were bought so they could re-make the movie into a TV series. It kinda looked like it was going stink, nobody bought it back in 2007 or 08 after the first screening. However the concept for a TV sitcom is there if done well. I think Veve bought the outline for a sitcom on the cheap and may turn a lump of coal into a diamond all while avoiding a possible suit for copyright infringement.
