Brothers In Arms,
I like what your logic. I also think DNAP has made a progress in developing longer acting Epogen. if not why enter in such an agreeement to pay so much money? They must be at some phase of developing or near developing this long acting epogen. Currently there are two types of epogen in the market. Epogen is short acting and it is usually administered three times a week for anemia associated with cancer chemotherapy or in HIV patients or in patients who are going through kidney dialysis. As you may know the longer acting Epogen ( Aranesp ) works only two weeks. That means patient has to go to outpatient setting (hospital, doctor office, home infusion company and ....) to get the shot. Definitely there is a need to develop a tpye of epogen that can last longer than 2 weeks. There is also cost issue associated with the use of such drug. Patients, Hospitals, home infusion companies long term care facilities are saving about 40% by converting from short acting Epogen to Aranesp and that is a good reason that Aranesp is growing really fast every year and doctors are switching from Epogen or procrit to Aranesp. I also agree with you that DNAP will need a huge and successful company such as Amgen or Ortho-Mcniel to market DNAP's product if they indeed come up with such a drug.
I also believe there was a reason for DNAP not wanting to go through a joint venture with biofrontera. I think Dr. T is very smart and why share the wealth? Why focus on biofrontera when they may be near something huge? DNAP and its scientists have achieved something in the field of Epogen in the last 3 months and from the news it sounds very promising. Of course this is my opinion and all based on my understanding of the news and recent developments.
Good luck to you and by the way I am like you . I prefer to listen and read more than posting messages here.
