Does anyone know how accurate Google's institutional ownership data is? Last summer I saw it around 38%, and a few days ago it was up to 50%, but now it's up at 59% which implies that institutions have purchased about 2.6 billion shares during this consolidation, which would be a really good sign.

I'm wondering because that seems like a huge increase and MSN Money only shows 48.24% institutional ownership.

Also, about the $5 mark:
It was my understanding that the $5 mark applied more to mutual funds and margin requirements than it did to institution investors, who can really buy whatever they want at whatever price they want to pay for it. The mutual fund ownership for C is at 1.09% according to MSN, which is way below the (approximately) 50% ownership of institutions, which could show some evidence for the $5 theory, which is also supported in several research articles I've found.

Thoughts?
