Organized religion of any persuasion has the same goal:

to disempower the individual.

The Catholic Church's inquisition went on for centuries to try and purge the world of thinking, creative, intelligent, spiritual individuals.

(I was raised Catholic, have not been a practicing Catholic since ~1965)
