A Slimmer Sabathia?
By BEN SHPIGEL
C.C. Sabathia was the heaviest player in baseball last season, but he may be on the verge of ceding that distinction. A sleeker version of Sabathia, who carried a listed 309 pounds on his 6-foot 7-inch frame, is scheduled to report to Yankees spring training after an off-season recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.

A baseball official confirmed that Sabathia had lost weight but could not say whether it was as much as 30 pounds, as reported Tuesday on Twitter by ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Sabathia has never missed a start in two seasons with the Yankees, but shedding weight would alleviate the stress on his right knee. Sabathia, who was 21-7 with a 3.18 earned run average and finished third in Cy Young Award balloting, had surgery in October to repair a meniscus tear.
