I think you are confused. First, understand that severe sepsis and septic shock are not identical. Septic Shock can be considered a from of progression of severe sepsis. The patients treated in the ICU had severe sepsis or septic shock. I am not sure what points you are trying to make about the assay, but remember that it is a rapid test, with results in about 30 minutes.
