The highly anticipate launch of the MeeGo platform is expected to catapult Nokia back into the forefront of high-end smartphones. In an entry over at MeeGo bug reports, specs for an unannounced MeeGo device have been revealed, possibly outing details on the upcoming Nokia N9.

Based on MeeGo bug reports, patch information, and source code files, the team over at NokiaPort.de has put together the following list of Nokia N9 specs: Intel 1.6 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 200 MHz GPU with 512MB RAM, 480 x 854 pixel display, HDMI output, Broadcom BCM4751 GPS chip, NPX Semiconductor PN544 NFC controller, Infineon XMM 6260 3G modem (21 Mbps HSPA+) and a Texas Instruments WiLink 6.0 WL1271 chip (802.11N WiFi, Bluetooth).

To put it bluntly, specs are exceptional. Back in 2010 when Nokia’s Linux distribution (“Maemo”) and Intel’s Moblin, merged forces to become MeeGo, an uncertain future overshadowed the project. Setbacks aside, if this spec sheet is based on the upcoming Nokia N9 — the smartphone world is in for a real treat in 2011.

It’s clear we’re thoroughly impressed by the specs on paper and we’ve been advocates of the MeeGo platform since the release of the Nokia N900. If Nokia can bundle the aforementioned hardware into the N9, the return of Nokia as a high-end smartphone powerhouse might not be so far fetched. For now, we remain optimistic, but it’s time to hear what you have to say. If the Nokia N9 packed these specs, would the MeeGo platform return Nokia back to the proverbial smartphone food pyramid?
