Winnipeg - January 28/11 - Agriculture and Agri, Jan 28, 2011 (Commodity News Service Canada, Inc. via COMTEX) -- Food Canada is expecting that the area seeded by Canadian farmers to canola in the spring of 2011 will be up from the level seen at the same time in 2010, according to its first acreage outlook for the upcoming 2011/12 (Aug/Jul) crop year released January 28.
The market analysis branch of Agriculture Canada cautioned, however, that the actual area seeded will be influenced by expected net returns, current prices, expected delivery opportunities, weather, crop rotation requirements and on-farm stocks.
The area seeded to canola in the spring of 2011 was forecast at 18.542 million acres, which would be up from the 16.818 million seeded in 2010.
