Lack of fresh water may make this point moot.

Saline or brackish-tolerant crops are the wave of the future, IMHO.

Crops that can last through unexpected periods of drought, flood, abnormally hot or cold weather, etc., are worth a look.

Don't know who's in this sector or where to invest, but I'll benefit long term if they succeed.

Expect companies to use smoke and mirrors to sound attractive if this sector takes off.

P.S., Didn't see a follow-up report, but there was grave concern that the 2004 tsunami that hit Thailand and devasated surrounding areas, also inundated rice fields. The worry was that the ocean "salting the fields" of rice would make them unusable for years to come. I assume rains and normal drainage kept damage to a minimum.
