Most Americans don't know it, but Russia and the Ukraine supply about 18 percent of the world's wheat crop. Much of this wheat goes to the Middle East and North Africa, crucial importing regions. So Russia's recent decision to ban the export of wheat indefinitely will affect wheat importing internationally, causing a rise in the price of wheat. While the U.S. wheat crop is considered healthy this year, a spokesperson from Ag giant Cargill told the Wall Street Journal that "trade barriers further distort wheat markets by making it harder for supplies to move from areas of surplus to areas of deficit."
