I think we are dealing with two different definitions of naked.

Acuity Pharma’s AMD candidate uses “naked” siRNA in the sense that it hasn’t been chemically modified to make it a better drug. ALNY’s siRNA is heavily modified but is “naked” in the sense that it does not use a vector to enter cells, relying instead on the chemical modifications to the siRNA.

The “dirtiness” will depend on the extent to which VEGF is needed for normal retinal functioning. That VEGF plays some beneficial role in normal retinal functioning is a matter of dispute in the industry, with EYET being the main proponent of this hypothesis.
