Aside from Roger Perlmutter, AMGN’s top brass is notably devoid of individuals with scientific expertise; hence, Perlmutter’s opinions tend to be over-weighted relative to the opinions of executives in comparable positions at other biotech companies. Compare, for instance, to Genentech (before the Roche buyout), where several people in the inner circle were accomplished scientists.
