I guess every media reporter and writer has gotten it wrong all this time then if they've been calling Maheu the "alter ego of Hughes". Please be sure to send them all a note citing their inaccuracy.

That means only that he was Hughes's public voice and representative. By the time Maheu was hired, Hughes wasn't seeing anyone anymore. Maheu never met him.
