No, I am a working schmuck that barely makes enough to pay the rent, I could never afford to buy land in Canada.

My curiousity stems from this fact. If every parcel of land is bought up, SCARCITY = VALUE.

People and companies don't usually have money to throw away on useless real estate. If it's all bought up, someone must think it has value.
