Grant it, that many of his proposals can be debated fiercely, but he was dealing with the Great Depression, and the rise of Hitler, and modern civilization as we know it. As another fine example of his proposals was the the TVA. This project alone enabled Tennessee to stop the yearly flooding and provide cheap electricity.

Eightly years later the TVA is still going strong and provides some of the cheapest electricty for millions of people, while employing tens of thousands of people. At the time it was a huge investment of taxpayer's money, but in return those funds were used wisely and the investment has returned to the government while benefiting millions of people to this day.

On a side note Eisenhower's use of government and funding to build the interstate road system is just another example of why government is needed when it comes to the advancement of a modern civilization. Today no one could even measure the impact of our interstate system on the economy, it has also retuned its investment 1000s of times over.

Some on this board might think of those accomplishments as socialistic, as for me it reminds me of Mr. Sam Walton and his vision of 1981 and spending 500 Million to have Wal-Mart its own satellite system. Some Presidents like Roosevelt, or Eisenhower, or even Mr. Sam Walton have vision that leads either people or a concept in business to move forward. But again its all in how you look at things.
