Gold Fields says planned strike to hit all mines Wed March 30, 2005 2:41 PM GMT+02:00
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Workers plan to launch a strike on Wednesday evening at all South African mines of Gold Fields Ltd, the world's fourth biggest gold producer, the company said.
South African operations of the group accounted for 725,900 ounces of gold produced during the three months to end-December, 69 percent of total output.
Gold Fields said in a statement it would take legal action in an attempt to halt a planned strike by 28,974 workers since a current agreement already covers "living-out" allowances, which the union wants increased by 70 percent.
