Cree Inc. (CREE US) fell 14 percent to $53.86. The maker of energy-efficient lighting products forecast third-quarter profit, excluding some items, of as little as 38 cents a share. Analysts are forecasting 58 cents a share on average, according to a Bloomberg survey.
International Business Machines Corp. (IBM US) rose 2.3 percent to $154.12. The world’s largest computer-services provider posted fourth-quarter profit of $4.18, topping the $4.08 average estimate of analysts’ surveyed by Bloomberg. Full- year profit this year, excluding some costs, will be at least $13 a share, IBM said.
Linear Technology Corp. (LLTC US) fell 4.4 percent to $34.53. The maker of integrated circuits forecast third-quarter revenue of about $360.6 million at most, less than the average analyst forecast $371.6 million.
Mosaic Co. (MOS US) dropped 1.4 percent to $83.86. North America’s second-largest fertilizer producer and Cargill Inc. jointly announced a transaction that will result in the distribution of Cargill’s 64 percent stake in Mosaic to Cargill’s shareholders and debt holders.
NuVasive Inc. (NUVA US) gained 5.1 percent to $29.30. The maker of spinal-surgery products said Cigna Corp. and Humana Inc. will cover NuVasive’s eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion procedure.
Amgen Inc. (AMGN US): The world’s biggest biotechnology company signed an agreement to sell its rights and assets at its Fremont, California development and manufacturing facility to Boehringer Ingelheim.
Apple Inc. (AAPL US) jumped 1.4 percent to $345.50. The company whose Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said yesterday he is taking a medical leave of absence posted fiscal first quarter profit of $6.43 a share. Analysts had projected net income of $5.41 a share, the average of estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
