fuagf -- well, we are ground zero for the most volatile convective events in the world (which of course happen elsewhere as well, but not quite like they do here) -- at the same time, that so far only 1 person (that I've seen reported) has died in your huge floods is very impressive -- must be a very good emergency response there -- and not drawing any parallel, but there's also e.g. Cuba -- in contrast to its regional neighbors, including us (Katrina), quite routinely takes hits from major hurricances with minimal if any loss of life (no doubt aided by their authoritarianism; when the gov says evacuate, you evacuate)

and as for things falling from the sky -- not ruling out a bit of man-made mischief in one instance or another, but there can be little doubt that only intense convection could get things other than birds up into the air, or that things in the air (lightning, hail, suddenly getting caught in freezing precip and/or much colder air, and/or powerful downdrafts, and/or powerful updrafts that lift them to unsurvivable heights/cold temps) have to do with the falls of birds
