You're correct, they produced under a small miners permit which allowed for a certain amount of ore to be produced. I can't remember the exact number of tons this allows you to mine but believe it to be under 25,000 tons annually. As noted I have first hand accounts and documentation from those who have been there in person while producing right down to blowing up rock while there. There was a tremendous multi-million dollar capital expenditure made trying to get Benton to produce profitably. That's where most of the original capital from early investors went to. If you go back and read some very old releases from a coupe years ago you'll see where the company invested heavily in items not limited to drilling and other gold processing related equipment. another expensive cost was the labor itself. Payroll for just the miners was very costly. I remember being very surprised to learn just how much the average miner makes.
