Alex G -- and of course, under Saddam, whatever his other failings, the regime (and the society itself) was quite thoroughly secular, not in any practical sense per se Islamic, and did not tolerate any sectarian bullshit by anybody against anybody -- those Iraqi Christians lived in peace, free to be who they were and practice their religion -- as did both Sunni and Shia Muslims, respectively -- this current exodus is just another further to the one after another since 2003 that have already cut their numbers remaining in Iraq in half since then, all thanks to our good Christian dubya's desire to impose our values there
the irony is stunning and instructive
but do our Christian righties learn anything from this? -- oh hell no, just makes 'em want more than ever to go kill more Muslims imposing their 'Christian morals' to put an end to the fighting, this time once and for all -- . . .
