In response to volatile market conditions and shareholder complaints, Morgan Stanley (MS) executives are told to budget 10%-25% less for bonuses this year. CEO James Gorman needs to pay enough to hold onto talented employees, but he also wants to improve Morgan Stanley's profits by keeping pay lower than last year's 62% of revenues.
