I do believe the geolist they working for them as a consultant is very well respected so perhaps you will like what he has to say...
that first incident you cited was an error but corrected...do I wish the mistake wasn't made? yes, but did they correct it quickly, yes so I personally don't believe it was because the company is trying to mislead or due to a scam? No.
